State

We woke up to snow the morning of the BIG day. Travis had to be to the school by 7:30 that morning. The snow didn't deter him at all, the piece of metal in his eye didn't either (at the time we thought it was just welder's burn). Sore eye and all, he made his way to the school, and on to the bus. Fast forward 3 more hours... time for Mom and Dad to leave. It is snowing really bad now, maybe 5 inches of cold and wet stuff blanketing the ground and our car. We are not deterred either. Rain, snow or shine we are going to Boise to see our son play on the "Smurf turf". Just as we are leaving, we get a call... from my Mom, who is out on the road, on her way to Twin, they are turning back cause the roads are so bad. We say we are still going. With seat belts cinched up tight, we brave the snow. I am glad I have Chet here to drive, he is braver than I am. We have 5 hour until the game starts, we plunge ahead, the roads are bad for the first hour, and then there is a break, they turn to just wet roads and we breath a sigh of relief! And as you can see, we made it with a half hour to spare! We made it to watch Travis get to start even! He has only done that once on varsity before. He is so little compared to the other team. I bet the guy he goes up against is at least 6 inches taller then him, and probably 70 lbs heavier! Travis doesn't give up. He isn't deterred!
The Fruitland team is twice our size literally. (A mom took the time to compare the weights)

They score two touch downs before we even score, but we come back in the second half, the score is now 14-20. Yes, we are still down, but we are still in the game.

And then they walk away with it. It is hard to watch, but our guys never give up. And they play good ball. There were a lot of flags on the field, but most of the time it was against Fruitland. They played dirty, but the refs were good at keeping them in check.

They might have beat us in points , but our guys beat them hands down in integrity. Our boys played their hearts out and gave them their best, and maybe, just maybe, we will be back next year to show them we are tough and determined! We are so proud of you guys!

ps. Travis woke the next morning with a lot of pain in his eye. It was Sunday morning and I didn't know were to take him for an eye injury. We knew by then that he had to have something in his eye, because a welder's burn would have been better by then. After many phone calls, I found a place that was open and his Dad took him in. The doctor pulled two pieces of steel out of his eye and put a patch on it. Then he told Travis to take it easy the rest of the day. That wasn't hard for Travis after the BIG day!

I'm SO proud of Snake River AND Travis... We love him so much and wish we could have been there to cheer him on. I'm thinking next year they've got it. :)
